Higher National Insurance known as Social Care Levy from 6 April 2022

From 6 April 2022, working age employees will pay an additional 1.25% Employees NIC, and Employers will pay an additional 1.25% Employers NIC. Pensioners who work will be exempt for the first year only (because HMRC systems cannot cope currently with introducing this on pensioners by April 2022!).
To avoid company directors switching salary income to dividends, Dividends will also be subject to an additional 1.25% from 6 April 2022.
These are heavy tax increases, announced to fund investment in the NHS and assist elderly care costs, but they are also a reminder that the financing of SEISS and Other Support has yet to be resolved. Watch this space.
As the economist Milton Friedman once said, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
