How best to pay HMRC in the current situation and later...

Paying HMRC by cheque is becoming increasingly unreliable. You are dependent on two entities outside your control.
The Royal Mail, because its correct delivery and delivery times are unpredictable.
HMRC itself, because its operations have been badly (self) affected by its policy of staff Working from Home as much as possible.
The result is cheques sent that are completely lost, or credited to your account up to two-three weeks after dispatch, with the Collector's Office continuing to send you puzzling demands for payments you think you have made.
These issues may be (hopefully) temporary, but you should consider paying online via BACS. It's direct, immediate, and traceable.
For advice and help on how to set this up, call us on 02844 616413.
